My New Bicycle (Part Deux)

I didn't want to muck up the previous post with this, but I thought it worthy of comment. It's a sign of the times.

One of the floor clerks at K-Mart took the bicycle somewhere to pump more air into the tires. He told me that I could go to the register and he would bring it to me when he finished. When I got to the registers, there was already a long line and no apparent movement. I found out that the registers were down, and there were people scrambling around trying to figure out what was wrong.

Long story short: I stayed in line for an hour and a half before they finally got a couple of registers working and I was able to check out.

It's a (negative) testament to how dependent we've become on technology, and the shortfalls of that. I can't imagine this would have happened at Wal-Mart, short of a serious electromagnetic pulse (EMP) from a nuclear explosion. That's the difference between Wal-Mart and K-Mart.
